Overview
Senior Overhead Line CAD Technician (Energy) – WSP in the UK & Ireland. Join to apply for this role and contribute to upgrading and future-proofing the UK Overhead Line Transmission Network, supporting resilience, efficiency, and alignment with the UK Net Zero 2050 goals.
You will work from early-stage concept development to detailed design, translating complex engineering requirements into buildable CAD solutions that power communities and industries across the nation. Collaborate with engineers, project managers, and stakeholders to deliver high-quality CAD outputs that support planning, approvals, and construction.
Responsibilities
* Deliver Drawing Outputs: Produce and support detailed engineering drawings for overhead line design, including line routes, access maps, stage-by-stage drawings, wire clearance diagrams, insulator string drawings, fittings, tower steelwork detailing, foundation design and setting-out drawings.
* Coordinate with Teams: Work closely with GCC CAD and UK teams to ensure seamless coordination and timely delivery of project deliverables.
* Standardise Drawings: Develop and implement standardised drawing practices for consistency and quality across project deliverables.
* 3D Modelling: Provide 3D modelling expertise for multidisciplinary projects within the OHL portfolio; import LiDAR or survey data and suggest efficient model/drawing production methods.
* Quality Assurance: Create checklists and perform periodic quality checks to maintain high standards.
* Mentorship: Guide, train and mentor less experienced team members; lead training for GCC CAD technicians.
* Client Collaboration: Coordinate design activities across civil, cable, and primary engineering teams; participate in meetings with contractors and clients.
* Support Proposals: Assist the wider team in preparing pricing, programmes, and narratives for project proposals.
What We Will Be Looking For
* Experience on National Grid Electricity Transmission projects or other UK utilities (e.g., SSEN, SPEN).
* Experience in Overhead Line CAD outputs for detailed design and tower design.
* Proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit; familiarity with 3D tools (MicroStation, PLS CADD) is desirable.
* Demonstrated teamwork and mentoring abilities; strong verbal and written communication skills; proficient in Microsoft Office.
