You will support the Flood & Coastal Risk Management (FCRM) Improvements Portfolio team, the Portfolio Management Office, and sub-portfolio project and programme work delivering over £150m of improvements in the next three years. You will help inform changes we are delivering to protect communities and businesses from flooding.
The Improvements Portfolio is a professional portfolio, programme and project management service within the FCRM directorate. We drive innovation and continuous improvement across FCRM and Incident Management and contribute to national and corporate strategies and delivery plans.
This role involves starting up and informing new projects, assuring live projects, supporting project managers, and helping improve and embed Portfolio management and data practices. It is well suited for someone with data analytics and/or project management skills seeking experience at programme/portfolio level.
This role is not eligible for Skilled visa sponsorship.
Responding to incidents is a central aspect of the role. You will be required to have an incident role (usually virtual) and be available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity during an incident. This may attract an additional payment and will include full training. Alternative working arrangements and full support will be available to enable you in your incident role.
Responsibilities
* Support the Portfolio Management Office and sub-portfolio project and programme work delivering £150m+ of improvements over the next three years.
* Inform and start up new projects and assure live projects.
* Support project managers and improve embed portfolio management and data practices.
* Build relationships across the Portfolio Management Office and contribute to the delivery of FCRM strategies and plans.
* Respond to incidents as part of the team and provide business continuity when needed.
Experience and Skills Required
* Formal project / programme management experience is essential.
* Highly numerate with data gathering, manipulation and interpretation skills; working knowledge of Microsoft Excel; experience with Power BI / Tableau (or similar) is desirable.
* Experience in a project support role in a complex organisation using Agile and waterfall methodologies.
* Administrative and organisational skills, supporting regular meetings, agendas and minutes for Portfolio governance cycles.
* Financial data management and project planning skills desirable.
* Ability to gain credibility and cooperation across the business through collaborative behaviours.
* Experience in tackling and automating routine issues with a continuous improvement mindset.
* Ability to work with uncertainty and develop innovative solutions.
