What You'll Do

You will ensure that every child looked after (CLA) has a meaningful, ambitious Personal Education Plan (PEP). You will attend PEP meetings, shape SMART targets, guide children and families through key educational transitions, and work with schools, carers, social workers and admissions teams to champion the educational needs of CLA and ensure they access high‑quality provision.

Responsibilities

Maintain a robust Personal Education Plan for each CLA, attending PEP meetings and adding virtual school notes to the ePEP. Promote timely and smooth transitions of CLA from one education phase to another by coordinating with parents/carers, social care, designated teachers, school admissions teams and virtual school workers. Ensure that CLA receive appropriate educational provision in good or outstanding establishments and achieve positive outcomes.


Principal Accountabilities

* Promote and safeguard the welfare of children and young people in accordance with national safeguarding guidelines.
* Ensure all CLA of school age have an effective and up‑to‑date PEP with clear outcomes and costed targets.
* Record and analyse key data on the ePEP, reporting back to the Phase Leader for multi‑agency reports.
* Follow up concerns and recommendations after PEP meetings with appropriate agencies, ensuring individual needs are met.
* Handle communications sensitively, minimising disruption to children and young people’s education.
* Assist Phase Leaders in identifying pupils requiring an assessment of SEN under the 1996 Education Act.
* Act as a challenge to services and schools to ensure appropriate targets and actions are agreed, reviewed and completed.
* Be responsible for the smooth transition of CLA to the next key stage, HEI, apprenticeship or employment, working with the Connexions team to advise on options.
* Ensure compliance with safeguarding, data protection, health and safety, and report concerns appropriately.
* Work with Phase Leaders, Education Coordinators and PEP Advisory Teachers to assess and support children and young people with SEN.
