Hours: 40 hours per week, Monday - Friday, All year round
Handkerchief Day Nursery is looking for a committed and enthusiastic Kitchen Assistant to join our kitchen team. This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys working in a busy environment and wants to support in preparing nutritious meals for children while gaining valuable experience in food preparation, kitchen operations, and hygiene standards.
This full-time role offers 40 hours per week, with flexible shift patterns between 7:30am and 6:30pm. Please note this is a full-year position, as the nursery operates year-round (not term-time only).
RequirementsAs a Kitchen Assistant, you will:
* Support the Nursery Chef in preparing and serving nutritious, age-appropriate meals
* Help maintain a clean, safe, and hygienic kitchen environment always
* Follow cleaning schedules and assist with kitchen hygiene checks
* Ensure food preparation meets dietary requirements and allergy needs
* Assist with food storage, stock rotation, and deliveries
* Work in partnership with the nursery team to promote healthy eating for children
* Follow all health and safety, food hygiene, and safeguarding procedures
What we’re looking for:
* Basic knowledge of food hygiene and kitchen safety
* Willingness to learn and support in a busy kitchen environment
* Understanding of dietary requirements and allergies (desirable)
* Good communication skills and ability to work as part of a team
* Experience in a kitchen environment (desirable but not essential)
