Interim IT Services Manager / IT Consultant Location: Liverpool (Hybrid) Contract: Interim / Consultancy Rate: Day Rate Duration: Short Term with Potential to Extend We are supporting a client who is exploring the need for an Interim IT leader to help steady the ship, strengthen internal capability, and introduce greater structure, control and direction across their IT operations. With much of the IT function currently outsourced, they are looking for a consultant who can take ownership, bring clarity, and deliver rapid, meaningful improvements from day one. The Opportunity As the Interim IT Services Manager / Consultant, you will lead on stabilising day-to-day operations while also shaping the future direction of IT. This is a hands-on, delivery-focused role with strong strategic influence, working closely with the Board to drive change. Key Responsibilities Operational Leadership & Service Delivery Take ownership of IT operations, ensuring helpdesk, support and infrastructure teams run efficiently and in line with SLAs. Review existing outsourced arrangements, assess risks and gaps, and introduce structure, governance and best practice. Oversee infrastructure stability across servers, networks, and storage, ensuring systems are robust and secure. Lead improvements across the helpdesk function, including workflows, ticketing, prioritisation and documentation. Infrastructure, Security & Technical Oversight Strengthen infrastructure resilience, network performance and cybersecurity posture. Implement immediate fixes and longer-term recommendations to enhance system stability and security. Lead technical projects, upgrades, migrations and service improvements, ensuring minimal disruption. Strategic Advisory & Board Engagement Work directly with senior leadership and the Board to shape IT strategy, short-term priorities and long-term capability. Provide clear insight on risk, performance, vendor relationships and improvement opportunities. Translate business needs into technical solutions and actionable delivery plans. Consultancy Delivery & Hands-On Support Combine strategic oversight with practical hands-on work where required. Mentor and guide internal teams, helping to strengthen capability and knowledge transfer. Drive a culture of continuous improvement and user-focused service excellence. About You This role would suit an experienced IT Services Manager, Head of IT, or Senior Infrastructure Consultant who: Has significant experience stabilising IT operations in interim or consultancy roles. Can deliver both hands-on technical support and high-level strategic direction. Has strong infrastructure, networking, security and service management expertise.
