Overview
We are looking to appoint a substantive consultant to work within our stroke service. This is an exciting time to join as we are in the final stages of becoming a Comprehensive Stroke Centre. We provide an active acute thrombolysis service supported by telestroke out of hours, and we are the regional neuro-interventional centre providing neuro-interventional thrombectomy procedures.
Main duties
This post supports the continued development of the stroke service. You will work alongside three existing Stroke Consultants, three Nurse Consultants, and a multidisciplinary team to provide excellent care to patients at all stages of their hospital journey. You will be involved in the delivery of acute stroke and rehabilitative stroke care, contribute to a high-quality TIA service (with dedicated MRI and Carotid Doppler provision), outpatient clinic, and our Ambulatory Stroke Pathway. There will be an opportunity to join the regional telestroke service for out-of-hours thrombolysis support.
About us
As part of the Medical Directorate at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Stroke Medicine is provided at Royal Preston Hospital (RPH) and Chorley & South Ribble Hospital (CDH). The service includes hyper-acute and acute stroke care, emergency TIA service, and stroke rehabilitation. The Stroke Medicine service works closely with the Neurosciences Directorate, which provides regional neurosciences for Lancashire and South Cumbria, including:
* Regional Neuroscience led Stroke Interventional Service with vascular neurology
* Neurosurgery, Diagnostic and Interventional Neuroradiology
* Neuro-critical Care and Neuro-rehabilitation

Qualifications
* Essential: Full GMC Registration and Licence to Practice
* Essential: MRCP or equivalent; substantive posts - must be on Specialist Register (or entry within 6 months)
* Essential: General / Acute medicine certification
* Essential: PLAB 1/2
* Desirable: CCT in Stroke Medicine
* Desirable: Fellowship in Stroke Medicine
* Desirable: BASP membership
Experience and Skills
* Essential: Wide experience in Stroke Medicine and General Medicine
