About the role An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Smart Technology and Fabrication Technical Team at University of Staffordshire as a Technical Specialist - to support a range of surface decoration workshops and processes (such as large-scale print processes, large dye sublimation, print separations for multiple screen printing, indigo dye printing, rug making, embroidery sewing machines, discharge printing, procion dyes). The Technical specialist provides support for student learning, teaching and research across the portfolio of academic disciplines including support for students’ projects. Working both independently, and as an effective member of a team of technicians, in providing an expert level technical support service which meets the needs of academic staff and students and enables optimum use of University resources. The role includes support, designing and delivering training programs/ instruction on a range of equipment and associated processes, and first line maintenance. This is a full time, part year post: working 37 hours per week for 34 weeks of the year (term-time only. Main Responsibilities 1. Provide expert-level support for complex technical issues, including diagnosing, troubleshooting and resolving problems related to equipment or software and ensure timely and effective resolution of technical issues to minimise disruptions. 2. Install, configure, maintain and operate technical equipment according to University requirements and best practice. Ensure that systems are set up correctly and optimised for performance and security. 3. Monitor the performance and health of technical equipment, perform regular maintenance tasks, and health and safety audits to ensure equipment reliability and safety. 4. Create and maintain teaching materials and detailed documentation for technical processes and troubleshooting procedures. Develop materials and provide technical training and instruction to staff, students, external collaborators and other technical staff. 5. Assist in the planning, execution and management of technical projects such as laboratory, studio and workshop upgrades, or major equipment replacement. Collaborate with project teams to ensure that technical aspects are completed successfully and align with project goals. 6. Communicate effectively with staff, students, external parties and stakeholders to understand their technical needs and provide solutions. Manage expectations and provide updates on the status of issues, projects and service requests. Please note: the above salary is on a pro-rata basis as this is term-time only role.
