This is not an Expression of Interest: This is a readiness assessment to see if you are ready to join the Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service recruitment process.

As an essential part of our emergency response system, Firefighters play a crucial role in safeguarding lives, property, and the environment. As well as fighting fires, Firefighters attend other emergencies such as road, rail and air traffic accidents, chemical spills, floods, and terror attacks. We place a firm emphasis on fire prevention, and our Firefighters spend a great deal of time promoting fire safety within the community. Through our free Safe and Well checks, Firefighters visit homes, assess their risk from fire, check smoke alarms, and advise people on how best to plan their escape routes in case of fire.

Step 1 Submit Expression of Interest
Sign up using our expression of interest form. Your details will be added to our Firefighter database, and you will receive emails with information from us on a range of different things including how to join the recruitment process
Step 2 Complete your readiness assessment
Follow the link above to complete your readiness assessment. This will allow us to determine if you are physically ready to join our recruitment process or if a later campaign will be better suited to you.
Step 3 Application:
Once eligible to apply for the Firefighter role, you will be sent the application from the team to complete take the first steps towards starting your new career.
Autumn 2025 Recruitment Campaign Timeline
* Readiness Assessment: Monday 13th October Monday 20th October
* Recruitment Days (Face-to-Face): Wednesday 5th November Saturday 8th November
* Application Window: Wednesday 12th November Friday 14th November
* Psychometric Assessment (Talogy): Friday 14th November Monday 17th November
* National Firefighter Selection Tests (Face-to-Face): Saturday 22nd November & Saturday 29th November
* Assessment Centre & Functional Skills (Face-to-Face): Tuesday 9th December Friday 12th December
You must be available for one face-to-face session per stage of the recruitment process. All dates are fixed and cannot be rescheduled. If you are unable to commit to at least one session per stage, we kindly ask that you do not complete the Readiness Assessment and instead consider applying in a future campaign.
