An opportunity has arisen to join our busy Portering department Ysbyty George Thomas Hospital. The position will consist of working a rota pattern across a seven day working week.
The postholder will be expected to do the following:
The collection and delivery of specimens.
Medical gas cylinder delivery and collection.
Medical device transfers.
Waste management duties.
Postroom duties.
Driving duties.
Mortuary transfers.
Please note that the above is representative of the expected duties, but the list is not meant to be exhaustive.
Porter services comprise of operational duties associated with waste, transport, community beds team, mail, support to cleaning services and general hospital porter duty functions.

The role will also contribute to the provision of healthcare for the Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board (CTMUHB) by delivering a porter service which meets all organisational and legislative standards and support the Facilities Unit commitment to quality standards.
Support the Porter Services Supervisor and Porter Team Leader in supervising the provision of Porter Services delivery that is managed from a Facilities Centre based at the hospital and ensuring a high quality service is delivered to patients, staff and visitors in accordance with service specifications. Post holder will be required to perform supplementary duties to respond to service needs and that are appropriate to the Facilities services and in line with their grade.
The role will also assist in developing, maintaining and promoting the highest standards of service delivery and team working practices, and helping to maintain open, effective communication. Ensure a high quality service is delivered to patients, staff and visitors.
Welsh Skills Desirable: This post is advertised as Welsh Desirable. This doesn't mean essential; whilst the candidate doesn't need to have skills in Welsh, we'll consider it an advantage when short-listing and selecting candidates. This isn't 'fluency', just Speaking & Listening skills at Level 3 (equivalent to CEFR B2) or above. Level 3 means basic conversations with patients about their everyday health.
