Job Title:Social Work Assistant Team Manager – Mental Health Team
Location:Swindon
Salary: £52,572 per annum
Contract Type: Permanent

About the Role:

The Assistant Team Manager (ATM) for the Mental Health Team will provide support to the Team Manager in the management and leadership of the team, ensuring high-quality social work practice and service delivery for adults with mental health conditions. The ATM will be responsible for overseeing day-to-day operations within the team, managing complex cases, providing supervision to staff, and ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and best practice standards.

As an Assistant Team Manager, you will contribute to the strategic development of the service, ensuring that individuals’ needs are met through person-centred care and that staff are supported to develop their practice. You will work closely with partner agencies to ensure integrated service delivery and contribute to safeguarding processes where necessary.

Key Responsibilities:

* Assist the Team Manager in overseeing the performance and development of the team, ensuring that team members have clear roles and responsibilities.
* Support the Team Manager in the management of staffing, including recruitment, training, and appraisals, ensuring that staff are motivated, supervised, and supported effectively.
* Provide guidance, support, and supervision to social workers and other team members, helping them to manage complex cases and develop their professional practice.
* Lead on workload management within the team, ensuring cases are appropriately allocated, reviewed, and progressed in a timely manner.
* Lead on complex cases, ensuring that assessments, interventions, and care plans are effectively implemented for individuals with mental health conditions.
* Provide advice and support to social workers on case management, ensuring compliance with statutory duties, safeguarding procedures, and best practice guidelines.
* Monitor the quality of service delivery, ensuring that all service users receive a timely, person-centred, and holistic service.
* Work collaboratively with other professionals, including mental health services, housing, and voluntary organisations, to ensure that individuals’ needs are met across multiple areas.
* Provide regular supervision and mentoring to junior social workers, student social workers, and other team members.
* Ensure that staff are receiving appropriate professional development and training, offering guidance on career progression and skills development.
* Promote reflective practice and support staff in managing their professional development in line with professional frameworks.
* Ensure that safeguarding procedures are followed in line with local policies and statutory requirements, particularly where adults with mental health needs may be at risk.
* Work closely with the safeguarding lead to investigate and manage safeguarding concerns, ensuring that actions taken are timely and in the best interests of the individuals concerned.
* Provide expert advice and guidance on risk management, ensuring that individuals are supported to make informed choices and decisions.
* Promote multi-disciplinary working and ensure effective communication and information sharing between professionals in health, social care, and other sectors.
* Represent the team at multi-agency meetings and forums, advocating for the needs of individuals with mental health conditions.
* Build and maintain strong working relationships with internal and external partners to ensure a coordinated approach to service delivery

Qualifications and Experience Required:

* Degree in Social Work (or equivalent) from a UK university
* Registration with Social Work England
* Post-qualification training in mental health or related areas (e.g., Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act, Safeguarding)
* Significant post-qualification experience, including substantial experience in adult social work or mental health settings.
* Experience of working in a leadership or management role, including supervising and supporting staff.
* Experience of managing complex cases and working with individuals with mental health conditions, including risk assessment and safeguarding.
* Strong knowledge of mental health legislation, including the Mental Health Act, Care Act, Mental Capacity Act, and safeguarding procedures.Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organisational skills.
* Ability to lead and manage a team effectively, ensuring high standards of social work practice and service delivery.
* Experience of multi-agency working and promoting collaborative service delivery.
