About The Project
The ASTI programme is a major national energy‑infrastructure initiative led by SSEN Transmission, designed to rapidly expand and reinforce the UK’s electricity transmission network so the grid can support the country’s transition to net zero.
Balfour Beatty UK Construction Services in Scotland is delivering major Substation construction including Civil & Building works.
The Role
As a Senior Planner, you will be responsible for creating, managing and optimising detailed construction programmes across major civils projects. You’ll work within the planning team or independently, ensuring our planning processes and project schedules support successful delivery.
Your work will directly influence key project decisions, sequencing, methodology and resource use. This role plays a central part in coordinating teams, improving efficiency and supporting safe, on‑time project completion.
The successful candidate will have practical site experience as a Site Engineer / Agent who has moved to a planner role.

3. Project Support & Analysis
* Develop logical, efficient construction methodologies and sequences.
* Produce tender programmes, planning philosophies, reports and presentations.
* Prepare all planning deliverables in line with tender requirements.
* Produce, manage and maintain the Contract Programme in accordance with planning procedures.
* Analyse and present the critical path, advising the team on risks and corrective actions.
* Create and maintain project baselines and manage the change‑control process.
* Ensure all programme content is compliant with internal planning guidance.
* Manage resources including labour, materials and equipment effectively.
* Support contract management and progress reporting.
* Assist in producing KPIs and key planning data to inform performance management.

Skills & Experience Required
* Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
* Excellent communication and stakeholder‑management skills.
* Effective time management and organisational capability.
* Negotiation and influencing skills.
Knowledge
* Strong working knowledge of construction methodologies and project lifecycles.
* Proficiency in planning tools such as Primavera P6, Asta, MS Project and Excel.
* Understanding of tender documentation, contract forms and project management methodologies.
Experience
* Practical Site Experience
* Demonstrable experience planning and managing construction or large‑scale infrastructure projects.
* Proven ability using P6 or Asta to develop, update and analyse project programmes.
* Experience engaging effectively with stakeholders, subcontractors and project teams.
* Background in construction or another sector with transferable planning expertise.
