Planning for South Staffordshire This is an exciting opportunity to join the award-winning Planning Team and Council, as a Development Management Team Manager within Planning. We’ve invested significant additional resources into our planning service over recent years, and we need an inspiring leader to build on our great achievements to date. We want to continue to build resilience in our planning service, to deliver against the national planning reforms and meet targets and ultimately make a positive difference to the place and people of South Staffordshire. The role will oversee a high performing, hardworking and enthusiastic team of planners, support staff and specialisms including conservation, ecology and Tree Preservation Orders (TPOs). We have some important projects in play right now, including our ‘digital revolution of planning agenda’ and indeed we are a pilot for some exciting new digital projects. We are also in the final stages of completing our Local Plan and committed to starting a new plan early this year, as well as the delivery of a consented DCO at West Midlands Interchange, the UK’s most nationally significant rail served logistics development. At South Staffordshire, Development Management, Strategic Planning and Planning Enforcement work collaboratively to provide an excellent service, with everyone playing their part and supporting one another to achieve success. The main duties of the post will be to: Act as the lead technical officer in the delivery of the Council’s statutory responsibility to determine planning applications and functions associated with their implementation, and coordinating Planning Committee. Sign off decisions of planning officers under powers delegated by the Planning Committee. Contribute to the Planning Teams Digital Revolution of Planning agenda, leading specific Open Digital Planning (ODP) and pilot projects, to deliver increased automation and leading service improvements. Provide DM input into local plan preparation [plan-making] –working closely with the Strategic Planning Team Manager on policy formulation. Working collaboratively with the Strategic Planning Team Manager, and Planning Enforcement Team Manager, to facilitate an efficient and effectively joined up planning service.
