Job summary
An opportunity has arisen for a geriatrician, with specialist interest to be developed, to join a dynamic team of 7 clinicians providing expert care.
The department provides acute Medicine for the Older Person in two acute wards. All consultants undertake acute geriatric medicine within the comprehensive geriatric model. Consultants also contribute to various liaison roles including Trauma, Orthogeriatric medicine, Acute Frailty and Perioperative medicine.
The acute service is well supported by two local community hospitals and residential intermediate care facilities. There is a strong identity in the local community with these hospitals. There are consultant sessions in both of these hospitals. Such facilities with consultant input means that intermediate care can be delivered with confidence of being equivalent to the best comprehensive geriatric assessment models which are of proven benefit. It is envisaged that early transfer to these facilities for those who cannot go home early will be of clinical benefit and the shorten length of stay to allow efficient use of resources and improve throughput of the elective programme which is under great pressure.
For candidates with an interest in orthogeriatrics, the Orthogeriatric Service includes a consultant geriatrician, an orthopaedic nurse practitioner (specifically to support fractured NOF and geriatric consultant input on the orthopaedic wards) and orthopaedic speciality doctor.
