Responsibilities
Share responsibility for reception, resuscitation, diagnosis and initial treatment of all patients attending the Emergency Department. Work includes late shifts weekly and weekend cover; ensure appropriate arrangements for continuing care in conjunction with hospital and community colleagues.
Share responsibility for direct clinical supervision of junior medical and nursing staff.
Active member of the Emergency Directorate Team.
Participate in maintaining the audit programme.
Work flexibly to provide out‑of‑hours presence; demonstrate commitment to out‑of‑hours flexibility. Within the Department, 24/7 coverage is maintained by senior staff, with consultant coverage 08:00‑02:00, 7 days a week. Trust grade will account for 10 programmed activities per week.
Teaching Commitments
Provide 3 hours of formal teaching per week for junior medical staff and play a major role in this activity. Involve in teaching nursing staff (including Emergency Nurse Practitioners) and medical students during an 8‑week attachment. Participate in training of Paramedics and in CPR and other training for junior medical staff.
Audit & Professional Development
Participate in and enhance existing audit programme.
Accept responsibility for ensuring continuing professional development in the form of demonstrable CPD.
Annual appraisal processes are in place.
Qualifications
* MBChB or equivalent
* Full registration with the GMC
* MCEM A & B or fully obtained or equivalent
* Emergency Medicine (e.g., Apollo Medvarsity)
* Foundation Year 1 & 2 experience including at least 4 months in Emergency Medicine
* ALS
* ATLS
* APLS
* Ultrasound level 1
* IT skills

* Experience in audit
* Evidence of attendance at appropriate courses and meetings
* Evidence of teaching in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching
* Ability to communicate and liaise effectively with patients, relatives and with colleagues in all disciplines
* Written communication in a clear and concise manner
* Effective role model with values of safety, kindness, respect and excellence
* Experience of supervising junior staff
* Problem solving initiative
* Appropriate UK professional registration
