Offer description

We’re looking for a Science Teacher to work with young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, helping them rediscover confidence in learning and curiosity about the world around them. This isn’t a traditional science teaching role. It’s about meeting students where they are, building trust, and using science as a way to spark interest, conversation, and belief in their own potential. Our students may have struggled in mainstream education. Many arrive feeling disconnected from learning. Your role will be to show them that science isn’t just something in textbooks - it’s something they can explore, question, and understand. We’re looking for someone who: Sees behaviour as communication, not a barrier Can adapt lessons so that curiosity comes before perfection Understands that relationships are the foundation of learning Believes science can be hands-on, practical, and engaging Wants to make a genuine difference in the lives of young people Experience working with SEMH needs is helpful, but what matters most is patience, resilience, and the ability to create a classroom where students feel safe enough to learn again. In return, you’ll work as part of a supportive team who understand the challenges of this environment and who celebrate the progress that really matters - confidence, engagement, and those small moments when a young person begins to believe in themselves. You must have QTS to be considered for this role. If you’re a science teacher who wants your work to mean more than delivering a syllabus, we’d love to hear from you. All applicants will require the appropriate qualifications and training for this role. Please see the FAQ’s on the Teaching Personnel website for details. All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date. Teaching Personnel is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. We undertake safeguarding checks on all workers in accordance with DfE statutory guidance ‘Keeping Children Safe in Education’ this may also include an online search as part of our due diligence on shortlisted applicants. We offer all our registered candidates FREE child protection and prevent duty training. All candidates must undertake or have undertaken a valid enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. Full assistance provided. For details of our privacy policy, please visit the Teaching Personnel website.
