3 Month Contract with a local Authority Job Purpose This position is essential to the effective delivery of the Council’s statutory Planning and Development Management function. The role provides critical support in maintaining service continuity during a period of ongoing recruitment challenges. It covers one full-time equivalent (FTE) vacancy and one 0.4 FTE vacancy, both of which remain unfilled following unsuccessful recruitment rounds in early 2025. This temporary agency appointment ensures that the Council continues to meet its statutory obligations without disruption. Key Responsibilities Assess and determine planning applications in accordance with relevant legislation, policies, and guidance. Provide professional planning advice to applicants, agents, stakeholders, and members of the public. Prepare and present reports and recommendations to planning committees and other relevant forums. Support the delivery of the Council’s development management objectives and contribute to service improvements. Liaise with internal departments and external agencies to ensure coordinated planning outcomes. Manage a caseload of planning applications, appeals, and pre-application enquiries efficiently and effectively. Ensure all work complies with statutory deadlines and quality standards. Contribute to the mentoring and support of junior planning staff as required. Essential experience Required Proven experience in a development management or planning role within a local authority or similar environment. Strong understanding of UK planning legislation, policy frameworks, and statutory procedures. Experience managing a varied caseload of planning applications and appeals. Ability to communicate complex planning issues clearly to a range of audiences. Experience working collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders. Essential Qualifications Required Degree in Town Planning or a related discipline. Membership of the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) or eligibility for membership. Evidence of continuing professional development in line with RTPI standards. Additional Information To Note This Role is 35 Working Hours Per Week This Role Closes On 31/07/2025
