Join to apply for the Community Safety Manager role at South Gloucestershire Council
As the Community Safety Manager, you will lead and manage the council’s community safety service to keep residents and communities safe. You will provide strategic direction and support to the council and partners, and act as the advisor to the Community Safety Partnership Executive Board and Chair of the Community Safety Partnership Steering Group.
The service budget is circa £2 million, with the majority funded through Home Office grants or the Avon and Somerset Police and Crime Commissioner to support the work streams identified in the South Gloucestershire Community Safety Partnership Strategic Plan.
What You Will Be Doing
* Lead the strategic response to community safety by formulating plans and implementing targets and objectives to fulfil strategic objectives, comply with current legislation and national policy frameworks to tackle crime and disorder.
* Lead a team of 11.6 FTE staff, including 4 direct reports, with portfolios including CCTV, community safety, domestic abuse and serious violence.
* Act as the lead officer for the council in Prevent, modern slavery and violence reduction, and chair the South Gloucestershire Prevent Partnership Board.
* Collaborate with internal colleagues and partners to identify funding opportunities and system changes with a long-term sustainability focus, representing the council at local, regional, and national forums.
* Manage a complex budget for the Community Safety team, ensuring resource allocation and delivery of services to meet financial agreements.
* Coordinate the strategic response to critical or high-profile incidents, devising actions to support communities.
What We Need From You
* Degree in a relevant subject (e.g., criminology or criminal justice), relevant professional accreditation, or equivalent knowledge, skills and experience in the community safety, crime and disorder field.
* Experience working at a strategic level within a large public sector organisation and demonstrable experience briefing senior leaders.
* Experience managing complex, high-value budgets including grant funding.
* Ability to work at a strategic level and drive performance through partnership working; expert knowledge in community safety, crime and disorder and relevant legislation.
* Experience assessing threats and risks linked to high-profile incidents that can lead to community tensions, with problem-solving techniques and resources to manage and de-escalate these situations.
* Experience managing a large team with a wide and varied portfolio.
* Confident in report writing and delivering presentations with excellent communication skills at all levels and in politically diverse environments.
