About the role:
We are embarking on a major Financial Planning Transformation programme that will modernise how our organisation leverages data, analytics, and cloud technologies. As part of this strategic initiative, we are seeking an experienced Azure Data Engineer to join our expanding Cloud & Technology teams.
This role will play a key part in designing, building, and implementing a foundational Azure data platform that integrates seamlessly with our existing on‑premise estate and sets the stage for future cloud-native application hosting. All work must be delivered in a highly regulated, security‑critical environment, requiring strict adherence to governance, compliance, and data protection standards.
You will work closely with data architects, cloud engineers, and technology leaders to deliver a robust, scalable, and secure Azure environment capable of supporting advanced data analytics, integrated planning tools, and enterprise reporting.
Responsibilities:
Cloud Architecture & Integration:
1. Contribute to the design of a hybrid Azure/on‑premise architecture ensuring secure, compliant, and high-performing data flows.
2. Support creation of a cloud foundation that will extend beyond data workloads into application hosting.
3. Work closely with cloud engineers, architecture and security teams to apply rigorous standards for identity, access management, networking, encryption, and monitoring.
Collaboration & Technical Input:
4. Work closely with Data Architects to refine designs, challenge assumptions, and contribute engineering insights to architectural decisions.
5. Collaborate with wider technology teams, business stakeholders, and programme partners to ensure solutions meet operational needs.
Data Quality, Security & Governance:
6. Implement engineering practices that ensure high data quality, including validation, monitoring, reconciliation, and automated testing.
7. Embed secure by design, including encryption, access control, secure data movement, and compliance with regulatory requirements.
Operational Excellence:
8. Build resilient, high‑performing cloud platforms capable of supporting financial reporting workloads.
9. Develop and maintain reusable engineering patterns, components, and frameworks.
10. Monitor platform performance, troubleshoot issues, and optimise data processes for efficiency and reliability.
Candidate requirements:
Essential:
11. Proven track record of building foundational cloud capabilities in a large, complex enterprise environment.
12. Experience designing and implementing secure, scalable cloud patterns and guardrails.
13. Ability to work within structured governance frameworks and contribute to platform engineering standards.
Desirable:
14. Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
15. Ability to work collaboratively across technology, governance, risk, compliance, and finance teams.
16. Strong problem‑solving skills with a pragmatic, delivery‑focused approach.
17. High attention to detail and a strong sense of accountability.
