The Role – Special Needs Teacher

In this role, you will be responsible for teaching pupils with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and associated complex learning needs across small, structured classes. Lessons will need to be highly differentiated, engaging, and tailored to individual learning profiles, with a strong focus on communication, independence, and emotional development.
You will be supported in the classroom by 2–3 Teaching Assistants, ensuring a collaborative and well-structured approach to learning and behaviour support. The role will also involve using communication strategies such as PECS (Picture Exchange Communication System) and Makaton, along with visual supports and sensory-based approaches to help pupils access learning effectively.
The successful Special Needs Teacher will work closely with support staff, therapists, and senior leaders to monitor progress, implement personalised learning plans, and create a calm, consistent, and nurturing classroom environment where pupils can thrive both academically and personally. This position would suit a patient, resilient, and passionate teacher who has strong behaviour management skills and a genuine commitment to supporting pupils with additional needs. Both experienced teachers and ECTs with a strong interest in SEN are encouraged to apply.
