Employer Engagement Manager Location: JTL Birmingham Training Centre with regional travel. Working pattern/hours: Full time, 35 hours per week. Salary: Up to £51,100, depending on skills and experience. About JTL JTL is one of the largest work-based training providers in England and Wales. About the role: To drive growth for JTL in the Birmingham and wider West Midlands region by engaging employers, understanding their workforce development needs, and promoting JTL’s electrical and plumbing apprenticeship programmes as well as the suite of commercial CPD training courses. A key aspect of this role is to support the growth of the training centre by developing and maintaining strong relationships with local employers and industry partners. The postholder will actively engage with businesses to understand their workforce development needs and identify opportunities to provide relevant training solutions. Working between the delivery of apprenticeships and commercial training programmes, the individual will use their industry knowledge and communication skills to build trusted relationships with employers. Through these relationships they will identify skills gaps, workforce development opportunities, and future training requirements within organisations. The role will involve promoting the full range of training solutions offered by the centre, including apprenticeships, short courses, and bespoke commercial training. By taking a consultative approach, the postholder will work with employers to match appropriate training pathways that support both business objectives and employee development. Responsibilities will include maintaining regular contact with employers, attending industry events where appropriate, and proactively identifying new business opportunities. The postholder will also support the development of new training provision by feeding back employer needs and market demand to the wider training team. Success in this area will be measured through the development of sustainable employer partnerships, the identification of new training opportunities, and the conversion of employer engagement into apprenticeship placements and commercial course bookings. To be responsible for identifying new business opportunities, nurturing employer relationships, and ensuring high-quality customer engagement from first contact to onboarding. To provide assurance and coordination of delivery-facing business improvement and process activity, working with both delivery and enabling teams to ensure changes are operationally feasible, appropriately sequenced and effectively embedded within business-as-usual practice. Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities: Employer Engagement & Sales Proactively identify and pursue new employer partnerships across Birmingham and the West Midlands. Promote and sell Electrical and Plumbing apprenticeship programmes to employers. Present and position JTL’s range of commercial CPD courses, securing new commercial training business. Conduct employer visits, virtual meetings, and presentations to understand workforce needs and propose suitable solutions. Manage a sales pipeline, ensuring timely follow-ups and conversion of leads. Account Management Act as the main point of contact for local employers, ensuring a professional and responsive service. Maintain long‑term relationships with existing employer clients to encourage repeat business. Work closely with internal teams (namely delivery, marketing and administration functions) to ensure employer satisfaction and smooth onboarding. Market Development Map out industry sectors and local opportunities for apprenticeships and commercial training. Attend regional networking events, employer forums, and trade shows to promote JTL. Gather employer and market insights to feed into product development and regional strategy. Performance & Administration Achieve agreed monthly and annual apprenticeship starts and commercial course revenue targets. Maintain accurate records of employer interactions within JTL’s systems. Produce regular activity and performance reports for management review. Person Specification Essential Requirements: Proven experience in business development sales. Experience in the education sector would be advantageous. Strong communication and influencing skills Ability to develop good working relationships quickly with employers and stakeholders Self-motivated with good organisational skills Knowledge of apprenticeship funding and the building services engineering sector Full UK driving licence Desirable: Experience selling CPD/commercial training products Understanding of local and regional labour market trends in the electrical and plumbing trades.
