The Opportunity
Queen Elizabeth’s School, Gurugram is seeking a highly skilled and visionary Physical Education Teacher to lead the development of an exceptional school-wide sports programme. You will be instrumental in creating a sports culture that inspires ambition, celebrates teamwork, and equips students with the physical, mental, and leadership skills to thrive, whether on the field, in national arenas, or as ambassadors for healthy living.
The Role
Job Title: Physical Education Teacher
Reporting to: Director of Sports
Teaching & Learning
* Deliver engaging, inclusive, and skill-appropriate PE lessons to students in line with the Cambridge International Curriculum.
* Teach foundational motor skills, team sports, individual sports, health-related fitness, and physical literacy to a wide range of age groups.
* Prepare students for Cambridge IGCSE and A-level Physical Education by teaching theoretical and practical components.
* Create a stimulating and safe environment that supports the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
* Integrate technology where appropriate (e.g., video analysis, fitness tracking apps) to enhance learning.
* Collaborate with the school’s Learning Support and Inclusion team to implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs), learning profiles, or behaviour plans as needed.
Sports Programme & Enrichment
* Lead and support a wide range of co-curricular and competitive sports programmes, including intraschool (house) and inter-school tournaments.
* Coach teams and accompany students to local, national, and international competitions as needed.
* Organise annual sporting events such as sports day, fitness challenges, wellness weeks, and skill development camps.
* Promote student participation in physical activity regardless of ability, encouraging inclusion and resilience.
Curriculum Planning & Assessment
* Contribute to the design and ongoing review of the school’s PE curriculum and schemes of work.
* Use a range of formative and summative assessment tools to monitor student progress and inform instruction.
* Maintain records of student achievements in both practical and theoretical components of PE.
* Provide detailed feedback to students and parents through reports, conferences, and ongoing communication.
Professional Engagement
* Stay current with best practices in PE, sports education, health promotion, and injury prevention.
* Attend internal and external training, including Cambridge International Curriculum workshops where applicable.
* Collaborate with colleagues across departments to support interdisciplinary activities (e.g., Science).
Student Wellbeing & Pastoral Support
* Foster positive relationships and actively promote wellbeing, discipline, and healthy lifestyle choices among students.
* Support broader wellbeing programmes in collaboration with the pastoral care and counselling teams.
* Serve as a mentor or form tutor as required, contributing to the personal growth of students beyond the classroom.
* Celebrate individual progress, not just performance, using personalised feedback and goal setting to motivate students.
Safeguarding and Professional Conduct
* Uphold the school’s safeguarding and child protection policies and procedures at all times.
* Maintain professional conduct in line with the school’s values and COBIS expectations, ensuring the safety and wellbeing of all students.
The Person
Qualifications and Experience
* Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Physical Education, Sports Science, or a related field
* Recognised teaching qualification (e.g., B.Ed., PGCE, QTS, or international equivalent)
* Certifications in coaching, first aid, child protection, or sports officiating are a plus
* Minimum 2–3 years of experience teaching PE, preferably in a Cambridge, IB, or other international curriculum school
* Experience delivering both practical PE lessons and theory for IGCSE/A-level
* Proven success in coaching sports teams and leading athletic events
* Experience working with diverse student populations in inclusive environments
