We are currently looking for a Materials Testing Technician (Aggregates and Asphalt) to join our friendly team based at Tarmac Barrasford Quarry and Asphalt Plant in Hexham, Northumberland, working on site as part of a team that supports operations at our Barrasford site. This site is accessible from Newcastle upon Tyne, North Shields, Consett, Morpeth, and surrounding areas.

Role Responsibilities
Reporting directly to the Senior Technician, the Materials Testing Technician (Aggregates and Asphalt) will be responsible for:
1. Sampling and testing of various construction materials (aggregates and asphalt) daily, where accuracy is paramount.
2. Carrying out testing to the highest safety standards and within your manual handling capabilities.
3. Visiting other Tarmac sites to carry out sampling and testing duties as required.
4. Conducting material testing within the laboratory, including ovens, furnaces, sieves (with a mechanical shaker), weighing apparatus, chemicals, and other scientific equipment.
5. Monitoring the quality of materials at all times for both internal and external customers.
6. Adhering to company Health and Safety procedures at all times.
The Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate for the role of Materials Testing Technician (Aggregates and Asphalt) will have laboratory experience gained within the construction sector and will possess knowledge of aggregate and/or asphalt testing and production. We welcome applications from candidates without experience, as full training will be provided.
This technician role is not a typical ‘lab coat’ laboratory position; it is a vital hands-on site-based role, involving wearing PPE and working in a small team closely supporting our operational asphalt plants. A driving license and own transport are preferred for site access.
Suitable candidates will:

4. Be able to identify potential risks/issues (training provided).
