Job Overview Teacher of Sport and Public Services Required as soon as possible 0.4FTE, Fixed Term Contract to 31 August 2026 Sixth Form Colleges’ Pay Grade NSP1 – NSP9 £32,178 - £49,725 per annum (Pro-rata) Ashton Sixth Form College is looking to appoint an enthusiastic, knowledgeable and passionate Teacher of Sport and Public Services to join an already strong and well-established team of dedicated, specialist teachers. The Sport and Public Services department is a very busy and exciting department to work in as offers a wide range of vocational qualifications at level 3. The department has over 300 students and works with Pearson and NCFE as awarding bodies. Our main delivery is focussed on Extended Diplomas and Certificate qualifications. The Certificate qualifications (worth 1 A Level) support the vibrant mixed study programme within Ashton Sixth Form College. The department runs the Pearson programmes for the Sport and Exercise Sciences provision and works within the 2016 and 2019 R.Q.F. framework for the full time sport and NCFE for the Uniformed Services/Certificate in Sport. In terms of staffing we have 4 full time teaching staff with 3 part-time teaching members of staff. We are also supported by 3 coaches from the City in the Community programme and by a full time sports coordinator. The department prides itself on running the college wide sporting enrichment opportunities for students across the college. These opportunities are based around the competition element of sport as we have 5 football teams, 1 basketball team, 1 rugby team, 1 netball teams plus we enter regional and national competitions across numerous other team and individual sports. We also offer lunch and after college sessions for participation sport across differing sports such as badminton, table tennis and futsal. We also promote and run the Ashton Elite programme, which offers bespoke 1 to 1 support for all elite level athletes for those that represent their sport from regional to national/international level. Within the curriculum offer and run an extensive enrichment and employability programme for all students. We work with on a regular basis all the uniformed public services and have established and fruitful working relationships with UCLAN, Manchester Metropolitan, Huddersfield and Bolton Universities. We also work with many local schools and sports clubs as a number of our students have long term coaching placements there.
