Detailed job description and main responsibilities

* The duties outlined below are not definitive and may be changed in accordance with the needs of the service.
* Multidisciplinary team work is envisaged as a key component of the working of this Trust and will involve Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) discussion with other colleagues.
* Continuing responsibility for the care of patients in his/her charge, including all administrative duties associated with patient care.
* Provision of cover for colleagues' periods of leave in accordance with arrangements agreed within Trust policy.
* Participation in clinical audit and in continuing medical education.
* Undertaking ward duties under the direction of senior colleagues.
* Undertaking outpatient clinics, pleural procedure and bronchoscopy under the supervision of senior colleagues.
* Providing evidence-based care for patients in a multidisciplinary setting.
* Conducting suitable duties in cases of emergencies and unforeseen circumstances.

Person specification

Qualifications

* MBBS or equivalent medical qualification.
* MRCP (UK) Part 1 and Part 2 or equivalent experience.
* Advanced Life Support (ALS) or be in the process of acquiring within a grace period of starting.

Experience

* Full Registration and a licence to practise with the General Medical Council.
* At least four years' full-time postgraduate training (or its equivalent gained on a part-time or flexible basis) at least two of which will be in Acute Medicine or as a fixed term specialty trainee in Acute Medicine; or shall have equivalent experience and competencies.
* Competence and expertise in Acute and General medicine
* Evidence of previous NHS experience
* Management of medical admissions at ST3+ level
* Advanced procedural competences, such as chest drains, ascitic drains and lumbar punctures.
* Evidence of supervision or training of junior doctors.
