About the role

:
1. As a Youth Worker, you will play a crucial role in providing personalised assistance to secondary students aged 7-14 with behavioural difficulties.
2. Working 2:1 or with small groups to manage behaviour.
3. Implement behaviour support plans or Individual Education Plans (IEPs).
4. De-escalate challenging situations using positive behaviour strategies.
5. Help create a safe, structured, and supportive environment.
6. Support students’ learning alongside their behaviour needs.
7. Help maintain a calm and productive classroom atmosphere.

About the school:

8. A Secondary Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) offering a supportive and flexible educational environment for students who face challenges that make mainstream schooling difficult. Working in close partnership with schools, families, and students, the school provides a range of personalised options designed to promote rapid progress, re-engagement, and sustainable, long-term change.
9. The provision supports students with a variety of complex needs, including behavioural challenges, mental health difficulties, and Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and their goal is to provide a nurturing, individualised learning experience that helps each young person overcome their barriers and re-engage positively with their education.
10. With smaller class sizes, a highly skilled staff team, and tailored interventions, they offer a safe and structured setting where students can rebuild confidence, develop essential academic and social skills, and, where appropriate, prepare for reintegration into mainstream education or a successful transition to the next stage of learning or training.
11. The school’s ethos is rooted in understanding each young person’s unique circumstances, fostering self-belief, and supporting meaningful, lasting change through personalised care and relationship-led practice.

About you:

We welcome applications from people with a background in:- PRUs, SEMH settings or alternative provisions, Youth work, mentoring or behaviour support, Psychology, criminology, social care or safeguarding-based roles

You will be:-

16. Passionate about giving young people a second chance
17. Willing to undertake training (including safeguarding and de-escalation)
18. Able to obtain suitable references and a valid DBS check.

Salary is dependent on experience, training or qualifications. The minimum experience, training or qualifications required for this position are a suitable qualification for working with children and experience working with special education needs
