Grade 7 Contract Type: Fixed Term Contract up to June 2025 Closes: 7 th May 2024 Travel and international travel is required for this role A research position is available for candidates with expertise in experimental quantum materials physics, joining the group of Dr Mingee Chung as part of the Condensed Matter Group, University of Birmingham. Funded by EPSRC(EP X011887/1), this project aims to identify finite temperature spin transport in quantum magnetic insulators. The project will use primarily NMR alongside complementary bulk techniques such as specific heat measurements. There will be a strong focus on the experimental capability for a versatile NMR probe compatible with cryogenic systems and also operating systems. The successful candidate will have access to a training budget, opportunities to collaborate with central facilities researchers and other national and international collaborators, and the opportunity to present the research at national and international meetings and conferences. Person Specification First degree in Physics, Chemistry, Materials Science or related subject, and a PhD (or one near to completion) in Quantum Materials, Condensed Matter or a related discipline. A demonstrable track record of high-quality written research work in experimental condensed matter. Expertise in one (or more) of the following experimental techniques: NMR, muon spin relaxation and neutron scattering, or a related. Ability to communicate complex information clearly to audiences.
