Assistant SENCo
Location: Effingham, Surrey
Actual salary: £27,713 - £30,250 dependant on qualifications
Hourly rate: £15.51 - £16.93 per hour
Hours: 40 hours per week - Term Time only - Start time 8.15am - Finish time Monday/Tuesday/Wednesday 4.45pm. Thursday 5pm and Friday 4pm
Start date: As soon as possible - there will be a delay in interviews until September due to the summer holidays.
Aurora Poppyfield School
We’re looking to recruit an Assistant SENCo to join our team at Poppyfield School. Our autistic students are aged between 11 – 16, they have associated behavioural and communication difficulties. Some pupils may have multiple learning difficulties. Poppyfield is part of the Aurora group, they share their Principal with other schools across Surrey, but all other staff are specific to each school

Key Duties:
Recording and Assessment
8. Set up systems for identifying, reviewing and monitoring need. This includes the management (chairing) of Annual Reviews for EHCPs
9. Keep parents informed about their child's progress through individual meetings and at parents’ evenings
Leadership
10. Support SENDCo in delivering training opportunities for learning support assistants and teachers to learn about SEN, including whole-school inset
11. Disseminate good practice in SEN across the school
12. To support the SENDCo with the development of transition arrangements and integration into provision post-Eccles
13. Liaise with the outside professionals and manage/disseminate to staff their reporting
14. To keep abreast of developments in SEN (e.g. research, changes to the law) and inform SLT and Head where appropriate
15. To attend appropriate training, CPD and conferences and provide feedback to colleagues
16. Support teaching staff in modelling good practice in teaching pupils with SEN including those with more complex needs
Please note that duties will vary and you will be expected to contribute to the overall aims of Poppyfield when required.
Qualifications:
17. SENCO/Access Arrangement Assessor qualifications preferred, or the desire to acquire these.
18. GCSE Maths and English qualification minimum Grade 4 or equivalent is essential
19. Teaching qualification preferable but not essential, however teaching qualification is needed to achieve the National Award in SEND Coordination.
Knowledge and Experience:
20. Relevant and recent knowledge and experience of pupils with SEN
21. Sound working knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice
22. Understanding of the Safeguarding principles and Child Protection procedures
23. Experience of implementing a range of approaches to behaviour, including managing behaviours that challenge
Skills:
24. A person-centred approach to SEND delivery, and commitment to meet individual needs of each pupil
25. Nurture positivity and creativity in meeting pupils’ needs
26. Work on your own as well as part of a team
27. Work collaboratively with other staff and professionals with good interpersonal skills
28. Good numeracy and excellent literacy skills
29. Confidence and fluency in using appropriate terminology and language specific to the field of SEND
30. Competent ICT skills
