A rare opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and highly motivated Senior Theatre Support Worker in Charles Beard Theatre to assist in providing excellent patient care.The successful candidate will support the team of Registered Nurses in the safe delivery of care to patients undergoing surgical procedures.

The successful candidate must also be able to use their own initiative and be able to prioritise, be confident and remain calm under pressure working sometimes under difficult situations thereby possessing excellent interpersonal and team working skills.

Candidates must have good communication skills, be committed to providing high standards of patient care and be able to work well within a busy team environment together with having a mature approach to work.

Candidates must be educated to the standards set out in the person specification and preferably have previous experience of working in an Operating Theatre.

Main duties of the job

Senior Theatre Support Workers will support the team that carries out the operations by carrying out a range of checks, such as checking individuals into the theatre department, preparing equipment, counting swabs or other instruments, measuring fluids, monitoring and decontamination.

As a member of the theatre support staff, you'll also: move patients on trolleys, set out instruments and equipment ready for surgery,

Make sure the department has stocks of items needed. Clean and tidy theatre areas after surgery. Dispose of waste.

Monitor and record patient’s vital signs, reporting and escalating findings in a timely manner

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Provide good quality personalised care in accordance with agreed local and national standards.

Assist patients to access and use toilet facilities or continence aids and achieve physical comfort.

Assist in the positioning of patients in theatre and in the recovery area, ensuring that pressure areas are protected adequately and that patient comfort maintained.

Be able to work within the flexibility of the theatres, ie working days, evenings, & weekends

Undertake clinical duties relevant to the clinical area following achievement of competencies

Handle and store patient specimens safely, complying with Trust policy

Assist to maintain patient safety, conforming to health, safety and security legislation, policies, procedures and guidelines.

Promote equality in care and practice by recognising, respecting and meeting the needs and choices of individuals.

Contribute to maintaining safe, clean and productive care environment, compliant with standards for hygiene and cleanliness.

Maintain and develop own competence in accordance with Trust and local policy.

Communicate and document information in a timely and appropriate manner.

Actively try to resolve issues and complaints at local level and report outcome to line manager.

Person specification

Knowledge & Experience

Essential criteria

1. Experience of working in the theatre environment
2. Extensive experience in Processing and decontamination of Endoscopes
3. Understanding of Health and safety issues within Healthcare
4. Understanding of the concept and application of confidentiality
5. Understanding of the role of a band 3 senior TSW
6. Experience of working as a team

Qualifications & Education

Essential criteria

7. Basic General Education
8. GCSE Maths & English grade C/4 Or above OR level 2 numeracy skills and level 2 literacy skills
9. INCS/NVQ Level 3 in care or similar care qualification ( within 18 months of start date.
10. NVQ Level 2 in care or BCNS

Desirable criteria

11. Basic IT Skills
