Inspire the next generation of innovators at Wellington School
We are seeking to appoint an exceptional Innovation, Design and Technology (IDT) Teacher to join us from September 2026 or January 2027.
This is a rare opportunity to contribute meaningfully to a thriving and highly respected department, where creativity, design thinking and practical problem-solving are at the heart of learning.
Working closely with the Head of Department, you will inspire pupils to think differently and apply their knowledge of design, engineering and digital technologies to real-world challenges. You will deliver engaging and rigorous lessons across Key Stage 3 to A Level, contributing to a rich, forward-looking curriculum that reflects the evolving world of innovation and design.
You will also play an active role in wider departmental and whole-school initiatives, supporting interdisciplinary projects, enrichment opportunities and external partnerships that extend learning beyond the classroom.
Working in outstanding, purpose-built facilities alongside a small, committed team, you will have the opportunity to explore new approaches, experiment with emerging technologies and help shape the future direction of the subject. Design and Technology is a well-established and highly popular subject within the School community, valued by pupils and parents alike.
About the role
Reporting to the Head of Innovation, Design and Technology, you will:
* Deliver high-quality, inspiring teaching in Innovation, Design and Technology from Key Stage 3 to A Level
* Support the development of a forward-thinking curriculum that integrates design, engineering and digital innovation
* Encourage creativity, curiosity and independent thinking in all learners
* Contribute to assessment, monitoring and reporting of pupil progress
* Support and engage in departmental development and collaborative planning
* Contribute to interdisciplinary and whole-school innovation initiatives
* Play an active role in co-curricular provision, including clubs, STEM activities, trips and competitions
* Uphold the highest standards of safeguarding, pastoral care and student wellbeing
You’ll bring:
* A strong background in Design and Technology, Engineering or Product Design (ability to teach up to A Level essential)
* A passion for creative, hands-on and practical learning
* Enthusiasm for innovation, emerging technologies and curriculum development
* The ability to inspire and engage pupils of all abilities
* Strong communication, organisation and teamwork skills
* A commitment to contributing to a busy boarding school environment
* A positive, proactive ‘can-do’ approach and willingness to support enrichment activities, including occasional weekend involvement
