Mō te tūnga | About the role
This role involves leading, supporting, and supervising a team of social workers across the Christchurch East area. The team collaborates closely with Iwi, government, and non-government organizations to support tamariki and whānau. Building and maintaining positive relationships in this area is crucial.
You will identify your team’s professional development needs and support their growth. Manage workflow and ensure timely, appropriate decisions. All actions should reflect Oranga Tamariki's values and align with our Practice Framework, Principles, and Standards. Collaborate with peer supervisors and understand your role within the wider operational context.
The ideal candidate is an experienced Social Worker or Supervisor Social Worker.
Key requirements of the role include:
* A full, clean, valid driver’s license
* Full registration with the New Zealand Social Work Registration Board (SWRB)
* A recognized social worker qualification by SWRB
* Previous management or mentoring experience
* Ability to build and lead an effective team
* A proactive approach prioritizing tamariki needs
* Excellent time management skills
* Knowledge of the Oranga Tamariki Act 1989
* Understanding of cross-cultural practices, including tikanga Māori and Pacific cultures
