AWS Infrastructure Services (AIS) owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. We support all AWS data centers and related equipment, ensuring customers have continual access to innovation. You will join a diverse team covering software, hardware, network engineering, supply chain, environmental expertise, operations management, and more.
As an Environmental Engineer, you will support site development and environmental compliance in the United Kingdom, including permit preparation, communication with authorities, and oversight of consultants. You will also ensure regulatory compliance, provide guidance to operations teams, and monitor environmental performance.
The role involves collaborating with internal and external partners across government, contractors, consultants, design, construction, and operations.
Key Job Responsibilities
* Assess and support compliance with local and national environmental regulations, contractual obligations, and Amazon policy.
* Support environmental permit preparation and submission to authorities, negotiating permit requirements.
* Review and follow environmental due diligence processes for new site selection and liaise with internal stakeholders.
* Play a key role in regional environmental programs, integrating with engineering, construction, and operation teams to drive a responsible culture and maintain management processes and external accreditation.
* Ensure work performed by contractors, consultants, and employees meets Amazon standards.
* Develop, analyze, and present environmental metrics, horizon scanning for risk and communicate insights to stakeholders.
* Submit timeliness critical environmental reports to governmental agencies.
* Complete thorough environmental investigations and associated regulatory reporting; develop corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
Basic Qualifications
* Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, chemical/environmental engineering, or related field.
* 7+ years as an environmental technical resource, compliance specialist, or program manager.
* Strong knowledge of environmental regulations (air quality, water quality, waste management, hazardous materials).
* Applied knowledge of local, national and European environmental laws and standards.
* Proven experience with regulatory assessments, permit preparation and compliance management.
* Excellent problem‑solving and analytical abilities.
* Ability to work under pressure and handle regulatory deadlines.
* Strong organizational and time‑management skills.
* Experience in environmental reporting and documentation.
* Ability to conduct environmental investigations and develop corrective actions.
* Strong communication skills in local language and English.
* Ability to collaborate with various departments and external stakeholders.
* Experience working with contractors, consultants, and regulatory agencies.
Preferred Qualifications
* Master’s degree or equivalent in environmental field.
* Experience in data center or industrial facility environmental management.
* Knowledge of environmental management systems (ISO 14001).
* Experience with environmental impact assessments.
* Familiarity with sustainability reporting and metrics.
* Knowledge of waste management and circular economy principles.
* Experience with environmental auditing and compliance verification.
* Understanding of climate change regulations and carbon reporting.
