Overview

This is an exciting time to join the respiratory team as we move into a state‑of‑the‑art respiratory unit in the brand‑new Louisa Martindale Building. Your clinical working environment will include the respiratory same day unit on the 9th floor with clear views of the English Channel.


Responsibilities

* Provide clinical expertise and knowledge and demonstrate sound understanding of the issues related to patients with Asthma and COPD including assessment, treatment and management of this client group.
* Facilitate and manage the provision of high‑quality nursing care to patients with Asthma and COPD to provide optimum health and support for patients, their families and/or carers.
* Utilise skills of leadership and advanced clinical expertise to ensure a seamless service for patients, carers and staff and provide advice, education and support from diagnosis to end of life care.
* Work collaboratively with primary and secondary health care professionals, supporting individuals attending the Trust either as inpatients or outpatients and ensure smooth transitions of care into the community setting.
* Join an expanding team as we develop a Tier 3 Severe Asthma Spoke to deliver high quality care to patients with asthma both on an inpatient and outpatient basis: assisting to identify those patients who may be eligible for biological asthma treatments.
* Have excellent communication skills.
* Communicate sensitive condition‑specific information.
* Work closely with the respiratory service.
* Ensure confidentiality and adherence to the Data Protection Act is maintained ensuring that full and accurate records of relevant information is documented in patients’ medical notes.
* Advise, negotiate and counsel patients and relatives on the most appropriate treatment.
* Report and arrange repairs/maintenance of equipment.
* Lead best practice in nursing care of patients with Asthma.
* Support the UHSussex biologics MDT by providing information and insight on patient needs.

Candidate Pack

This role is eligible for visa sponsorship under the UK Visas & Immigration (UKVI) Skilled Worker route. Sponsorship can only be provided where applicants meet the specific requirements set by UKVI, including the relevant skill and salary thresholds (£25000), and any role‑specific criteria. For example, applicants for the Senior HCA role must be able to evidence a minimum of 2 years’ experience in the same role to qualify for sponsorship.

Please note that if you currently work for another NHS Trust or UHSussex and you are applying to accept this position as a secondment opportunity, before applying you must seek agreement and authorisation from your current Trust/Manager. Secondments can’t be agreed without this approval. If you are unable to gain approval, you should refrain from applying unless you wish to take this role as a fixed‑term position.

If you are applying using a Graduate visa as your right to work, you must have a minimum of 18 months remaining on your visa at time of application.

We welcome applications from those who currently hold a UK NMC registration. If you currently hold an overseas nursing qualification and require sponsorship we are not currently direct hiring Internationally Qualified Nurses.
