Offer description

Position: Caseworker.
Reports to: Chief Executive Officer (CEO).
Location: Hybrid – based partly in our Southampton office and partly working from home. Travel across Hampshire, Isle of Wight, and Dorset may be required, with online delivery across England and Wales.

Salary and hours to be discussed at interview.

Role Purpose

We are seeking an experienced, resilient, and practical Caseworker to join our support team and help deliver high-quality, inclusive services for trans and gender questioning individuals. This hands‑on role involves direct engagement with clients, providing one-to-one casework and offering both emotional and practical support.

The ideal candidate will have strong experience in case management, ideally within the trans or LGBTQ+ community. They must be confident managing complex and sensitive cases, able to maintain professional boundaries, and committed to promoting the wellbeing and empowerment of trans individuals.

We are looking for someone who is curious, proactive, self‑motivated, and energetic – someone who takes initiative, is eager to learn, and thrives in a dynamic, person-centred environment. They should be calm under pressure, solutions‑focused, and grounded. A background in casework, counselling, social work, or support services is essential. Relevant qualifications would be an advantage.

Working Arrangements

This is a hybrid role, with a combination of working from home and attending the Southampton office. The postholder must be able to attend the office as required in line with business needs. This is not a fully remote position.

Some travel within Hampshire, the Isle of Wight, and Dorset may also be required to meet clients or attend service‑related activities.

Key Responsibilities

Service Coordination

* Plan and coordinate delivery of one-to-one support and casework services.
* Deliver direct client support both online and in-person as a key part of the service team.
* Monitor and evaluate service delivery, identifying opportunities for improvement.
* Conduct assessments to identify client needs and develop tailored support plans.
* Refer clients to appropriate external services (e.g., housing, healthcare, social services).
* Manage case allocations, ensuring appropriate support for complex or high-need individuals.
* Carry out risk assessments and maintain contact with clients awaiting therapeutic services.
* Support the design and testing of new one-to-one support approaches, including for neurodiverse trans individuals.

Team Collaboration

* Work closely with colleagues on complex or sensitive cases.
* Share best practices and contribute to a positive, collaborative team environment.

Direct Support Delivery

* Manage a personal caseload, offering practical and emotional support to individuals.
* Act as a point of contact for concerns raised by service users within your area of work.
* Ensure all support provided aligns with organisational policies and professional standards.

Administrative and Operational Duties

* Maintain accurate and timely records of client support.
* Assist with scheduling, reporting, and other administrative tasks to support effective service delivery.
* Ensure all activities comply with data protection, confidentiality, and health and safety standards.

Stakeholder Engagement

* Build and maintain relationships with relevant referral agencies and external services.
* Represent the organisation in meetings or forums when required.
* Support ongoing engagement with accreditation bodies to ensure compliance.

Safeguarding

* Remain vigilant in identifying safeguarding concerns and follow organisational policies and procedures.
* Work closely with the designated safeguarding lead when concerns arise.
* Help promote a safe and respectful environment for all clients, staff, and volunteers.

Person Specification

Qualifications and Experience

* Substantial experience in casework, counselling, or support work – ideally within LGBTQ+ or other marginalised communities.
* Experience managing caseloads and delivering one-to-one client support.
* Experience working collaboratively in a team-based support environment.
* Counselling or social work qualification (e.g., Level 4 or equivalent), or significant relevant experience.

Knowledge and Skills

* Strong understanding of safeguarding principles, mental health issues, and the needs of vulnerable individuals.
* Skilled in managing sensitive and complex client issues with professionalism.
* Good working knowledge of referral pathways and local/national support services.
* Excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
* Strong written and verbal communication skills with a compassionate, non-judgemental approach.

Personal Attributes

* Grounded and calm under pressure.
* Highly resilient with strong professional boundaries.
* Practical, flexible, and solution-focused.
* Strong team player who values collaboration.
* Passionate about inclusive, person-centred support for trans individuals.

Why Join Us?

This role offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact in the lives of trans individuals through practical, compassionate, and professional support. You’ll be joining a values‑driven team committed to inclusion, dignity, and wellbeing for all.
