Offer description

THE ROLE

The Health and Wellbeing Practitioner (Occupational Health) is responsible for supporting the development and provision of an effective Health and Wellbeing Service within the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS). This role will deliver occupational health and wellbeing services and support projects to enable continuous improvements in health, safety and wellbeing activities and provisions.

The Practitioner works collaboratively with colleagues at various levels within the Health and Wellbeing department and across the SFRS to support health and wellbeing objectives. Leading and managing a team of screening nurses and technicians, the Practitioner will deliver expert clinical advice to SFRS employees and provide professional advice and guidance to a range of stakeholders. The Practitioner plays a crucial role in supporting the review of how our health and wellbeing services are delivered whilst leading and contributing to projects that underpin a culture of health, safety and wellbeing at every level across the SFRS.

As well as delivering core occupational health services, key initial priorities for the successful candidate will be to support improvements in clinical governance arrangements including clinical audit within the Health & Wellbeing Department, therefore previous experience in these areas is essential.

The base location for this post is flexible and will include a combination of site and home-based working, with travel and overnight stays throughout Scotland required. A full clean driving licence is essential.

This is a full-time fixed term position for 12 months, working 35 hours per week.

Salary on appointment will normally be at the lower salary point, with progression subject to regular review - in line with the SFRS performance appraisal arrangements. A higher salary placing will be considered in exceptional circumstances subject to experience demonstrated.

This post is subject to the provision of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exclusions and Exemptions) Scotland Order. The successful candidate will be required to join the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) scheme and will be required to carry out regulated work with adults and children.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service is an Equal Opportunities employer and encourage applications from all sectors of the community. In addition, we are committed to being a “Disability Confident Employer” and will ensure that all applicants who meet the essential criteria for the role are invited for interview.
