Applications are invited for a full‑time post of Consultant Anaesthetist within our Department of Anaesthesia.
Applicants must be fully registered with the General Medical Council and have completed at least one year of advanced general training.
Responsibilities
* Anaesthetise patients from a wide variety of surgical specialities, particularly elective and emergency vascular procedures.
* Cover elective theatres as part of the Anaesthetic Team and fulfil on‑call commitments (currently 1 in 16).
* Integrate with existing consultant staff to provide a comprehensive Anaesthetics Service available seven days a week.
* Provide anaesthetic services for 2‑day surgery theatres at Orsett, 7 main theatres, 3 day‑surgery theatres, 2 maternity theatres and a hybrid theatre in the Cardiothoracic Centre at Basildon.
* Deliver services for A&E, X‑ray, Cardiology and patients requiring ECT.
Qualifications and Experience
Full registration with the General Medical Council and at least one year of advanced general training.
Considerable experience as a Consultant Anaesthetist is required.
Additional Information
There are currently 23 consultant anaesthetists in post, and the successful candidate should commence as soon as possible.
The Trust is committed to a patient‑focused service and the successful candidate will be expected to participate in seven‑day coverage.
Doctors in training are supported through specialist trainee (ST) and core trainee (CT) programmes, with regular medical audit and monthly meetings. ACCS trainees are also trained; trainees are encouraged to attend day‑release courses for relevant exam components.
