We are seeking to recruit a Deputy Ward Manager to join our team on Ward D, working 37.5 hours per week. The core working pattern will predominantly follow a Monday to Friday schedule, with the post holder also required to participate in the weekend Bleep Rota. This role involves supporting the Ward Manager in all aspects of Ward Management, coordinating the nursing team, ensuring patient safety, and maintaining quality care.

Please note that senior positions (AFC band 8A or above) may be expected to participate in an on-call rota, if the role is predominantly operational.
Duties and Responsibilities
* Manage the ward in the absence of the Ward Manager.
* Coordinate the ward team and deploy resources effectively.
* Participate in the Directorate Senior Nurse Bleep Rota, dealing with urgent/emergency situations, redeploying staff, and advising ward staff as required.
* Ensure effective communication within the ward and with relevant external agencies or individuals.
* Organise own workload and adjust priorities in response to issues arising in the workplace.
* Recognise and respond appropriately to urgent or immediate issues, reporting to the multidisciplinary management team as necessary.
* Deputise for the Ward Manager at meetings and other events.
* Maintain ward management records and produce timely management reports.
* Maintain comprehensive clinical records.
* Maintain awareness of current best practice and deliver nursing care based on evidence, guidelines and protocols.
* Lead audit of nursing care within the ward, share learning and ensure improvement areas are realised.
* Maintain effective registration in accordance with NMC standards.
* Act in accordance with all organisational policies, procedures and expected values and behaviours.
* Attend ward/unit meetings.
* Assess, plan, implement and evaluate nursing care of patients in accordance with their clinical pathway and individual needs; liaise with patients and families daily; ensure compliance with legal, professional and organisational standards.
* Supervise and direct the work of more junior staff.
* Contribute to effective use of resources and bring potential efficiency savings or budgetary pressures to the attention of the Ward Manager.
* Support the Ward Manager in managing attendance within the ward area; participate in IPR/PDP process and undertake IPR/PDP of staff as required.
* Assist the Ward Manager to ensure newly appointed staff receive induction to the ward and preceptorship as appropriate.
* Facilitate a supportive learning environment for all levels of staff, including student nurses; act as mentor/preceptor/supervisor; assist staff in identifying training and development needs and support them in achieving goals.
* Formally assess competence of staff and students, produce verbal and written reports required by the Ward Manager, University or other departments; deliver health education to patients and families.
