Our Dordon Customer Fulfilment Centre (Ocado CFC2) is around 350,000 square feet and boasts world leading technology. At full capacity we will fulfil between 190,000 - 200,000 customer orders a week from this one site alone, which requires 24/7 operation and a dedicated team of Controls Engineers, Engineers and Technicians. About the role As a Controls Engineer, you will undertake the day to day reactive and planned engineering activities and improvement works at the CFC. The main task is providing front line support to the Ocado Engineering team to ensure that control issues,including PLC code related issues within our live operational systems are investigated and resolved as quickly as possible. The role involves activating predefined workarounds or temporary modifications to PLC code in case of hardware faults, collaborating with Engineering and PLC Support Teams to diagnose and deploy code fixes. Additionally, it entails front-line investigation of live production control systems, including the use of diagnostic tools like Profibus/Can Bus networks and Bar Code Readers. Other responsibilities include executing planned maintenance activities, analyzing data to enhance MHE performance, and closely collaborating with Operations and support teams to optimize facility availability and MHE automation performance. Hours: Permanent - 42 Hours per week Shift: 12 hour shift with an average of 42 hours per week and 264 hrs holiday equating to 22 days. About you Candidates for this position should have experience as an Engineer in Automated MHE systems, possessing strong technical skills and hands-on experience with automation hardware and software. They should hold a formal qualification in electrical or mechanical engineering (NVQ Level 3, HNC, or equivalent) and possess a good understanding of PLC control system architecture, AC/DC motor controls, and Industrial Bus Networks like Profibus and ASi. Experience with Siemens S7 300/400 PLCs and TIA, SCADA, and Siemens HMI systems is essential, along with familiarity in warehouse, distribution, production, or FMCG environments. Additionally, candidates should be proficient in Control System Communication Protocols, fully computer literate, and possess excellent communication and organizational skills. They should demonstrate sound analytical abilities, customer focus, and the ability to deliver results under time-critical situations, understanding the criticality of MHE in an automated environment and prioritizing responses accordingly.
