183‑day position. Salary: $20,159 base salary (based on education and experience). Location: Brockington Elementary Magnet School. Available: 2026‑2027 School Year. FLSA Status: Non‑Exempt.
Job Goal
To assist the teacher with supervision, care, and instruction of students with special needs in the general education setting; assisting in implementing plans for instruction; monitoring student behavior; and providing information to appropriate school personnel.
Qualifications
* Minimum of 60 academic credit hours from an accredited institution of higher education, or an associate degree (or higher).
* High school diploma (or equivalent) AND ready‑to‑work credentials:
* WIN Assessment: minimum Silver Level 4 or higher.
* Work Keys: passing scores in three areas (Applied Mathematics, Reading For Information, Writing) each at least level 4.
* ParaPro: minimum score of 456 on the state approved assessment.
* Negative TB test result must be on file prior to starting work.
Performance Responsibilities
* Act as a mandated reporter to ensure student safety.
* Adapt classroom activities, assignments and/or materials as directed by the supervising teacher to support classroom objectives and meet IEP goals.
* Administer tests, homework, make‑up work, etc., to support students’ needs.
* Assist students with personal hygiene and care needs (e.g., diapering, lifting, transitioning).
* Attend meetings and in‑service presentations to acquire and convey information relevant to job functions.
* Communicate with supervising instructional staff and health care professionals regarding progress or IEP objectives.
* Escort students to/from bathrooms, classrooms, community sites to ensure safe arrival.
* Implement research‑based interventions under supervision to reinforce learning concepts.
* Intervene in potential conflicts using appropriate approaches to diffuse confrontations.
* Monitor student daily schedule and behavior plan, maintaining a safe learning environment.
* Provide individualized and group instruction under supervision to reinforce instructional objectives and IEP plans.
* Supervise students in various settings (field trips, hallways, bus, cafeteria, etc.) to provide a safe environment.
* Supervise and escort students during emergency drills or during emergencies.
* Collect data on student IEP goals to maintain records and support decision‑making.
* Perform other duties as assigned.
