The role:
The main role for the Health Visitor (HV) is to be the designated named HV for all Children within their caseload from antenatal to school entry age, excluding the unborn child. This requires the HV to commence the child’s planning process. To discharge these responsibilities the postholder will have a responsibility to monitor the child’s wellbeing and assess if a need is identified. They will work in partnership with the child’s family and all involved agencies to produce a child’s plan which will require to be monitored.
In discharging these responsibilities the postholder is responsible and accountable for maintaining clinical, staff and information governance.

Clinical Responsibilities:
1. Assess, support, and safeguard the wellbeing of children within the caseload.
2. Develop, implement, and monitor multi-agency child plans with families and professionals.
3. Work in partnership with families and agencies to ensure agreed actions are completed.
4. Receive, analyse, and act on wellbeing concerns, escalating and initiating Child Protection when required.
5. Lead and contribute to Child Protection assessment, planning, service delivery, and supervision.
6. Make lawful, professional decisions on information sharing, balancing risk, confidentiality, and legislation.
7. Deliver the universal pathway, undertake assessments using validated tools, and make timely referrals.
8. Support quality improvement through audit, monitoring standards, and corrective action planning.
9. Maintain clear communication and accurate documentation in line with NMC and legal requirements.
10. Demonstrate NHS Scotland values in all professional practice.
Team Work:
11. Support learning, mentorship, and supervision within the team and partner agencies.
12. Assist in complaint resolution and implementation of learning and service improvements.
13. As Named Person, support development and compliance with local procedures, policies, and legislation.
14. Participate in service development and implementation of changes to care delivery.
15. Support health and safety for staff, children, young people, and families.
16. Assist with risk assessment, incident management, and compliance with health and safety legislation.
Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:
Registration requirements:
17. Registered nurse or midwife at degree level or equivalentPost-registration qualification in Health Visiting/Public Health Nursing and be registered on Part 3 of the NMC register
