Overview
Consultant Psychiatrist, Full time, Permanent, Psychiatry of Learning Disability, Sandwell. Based at Heath Lane Hospital, Heath Lane, West Bromwich B71 2BG. The post covers community work for adults over 18 with learning disabilities in the Black Country region (Dudley, Sandwell, Walsall and Wolverhampton) to the North of Birmingham City. There is one in twelve on-call commitment. You will be clinically responsible for patients within your catchment area and will be part of an established MDT that includes Psychologists, nurses, Allied Health Professionals and support staff. The post includes opportunities to provide reports to the Courts and to engage in forensic work where appropriate. Vacancy can be withdrawn sooner at the advertiser’s discretion.
Main duties
* Provide and support the development of specialist forensic psychiatric services to adults with a learning disability.
* Safeguard the wellbeing of vulnerable individuals, comply with confidentiality policies, and record activity accurately and comprehensively.
* Assess and treat out-patients with a learning disability and co-morbid mental health and behaviour disorders in line with NICE guidance, best practice and Trust policies.
* Manage a current workload of out-patients (e.g., around 58 outpatients), including those subject to conditional discharge or deprivation of liberty, with reviews conducted at patients’ homes or in Trust outpatient settings.
* Assess and treat out-patients with a learning disability and co-morbid mental illness, autistic spectrum disorders and/or epilepsy.
* Support the care of adults with learning disabilities by developing strong partnerships with other agencies and services, including social care, primary care and voluntary agencies.
* Contribute to clinical leadership within the Trust-wide learning disability service, with opportunities to participate in governance structures and take up medical management roles.
