We are seeking to appoint a Senior Research Software Engineer with experience of maintaining and developing software in a research (or industrial) context to join the Centre for Tropical Medicine and Global Health at the Nuffield Department of Medicine.
You will take a leading role in the design, coding, testing and documentation of development, working from functional specifications or details change requests. You will manage operational activities of development projects, attending project meetings and provide planning estimates and updates on progress to project leads. You will also manage your own workload, provide training and liaise with the academics, researchers and other systems users through all stages of design and development. Similarly, you will implement high quality, reliable and maintainable software that will lead to specific research outcomes and enable the translational impact of existing research.
It is essential that that you are educated to degree level in a computing or IT related subject or able to offer the equivalent in terms of professional training and experience. You will be able to demonstrate leadership in design, manage and implement a complex programming project (either as a stand-alone project or a significant contribution to an existing project). You will have advanced skills in programming languages used for research (e.g. Python, C++, C, Matlab, R, Java, Javascript, Fortran, Julia), including in concurrent and parallel processing environments, with the ability to take a lead role in designing and creating new APIs, user interfaces, system integrations and reports. Having experience in Databases, Front-end web development and Machine learning is desirable.
