Overview
The Department of Anaesthesia at Wexham Park Hospital invites applications from registrars (CT4/ST4+) to post‑CCT anaesthetists for our Regional Anaesthesia Fellowship. This fellowship provides advanced training in regional anaesthesia, enabling the post‑holder to develop expertise in ultrasound‑guided nerve blocks and continuous catheter techniques.
Responsibilities
The Fellow will receive exceptional hands‑on experience and training, will have opportunities to train colleagues in regional anaesthesia, and will be encouraged to engage in research, audit and service development projects to enhance our regional anaesthesia service.
Under the supervision of Dr Aditya Pal and Dr Richard Wand, the Fellow will perform a range of blocks for elective and emergency surgery, with an expectation of around 300 blocks over a 12‑month period including upper and lower limb blocks, truncal blocks and perineural catheters.
The Fellow will provide anaesthetic care to patients attending for elective and emergency care, operate within a full shift system integrating residents, fellows and specialist doctors into on‑call tier rotas (theatres, obstetrics and ICU) that comply with the New Deal and the European Working Time Directive.
The Fellow will deliver regional anaesthesia teaching in various contexts and undertake audits, QUIPs and research & improvement initiatives, with encouragement to present at national and international meetings. The Fellow will also serve as the local co‑ordinator for the Royal College of Anaesthetists 8th National Audit Project (NAP‑8).
Qualifications & Requirements
Fellows must be registered with the GMC and comply with the Trust’s clinical governance arrangements, including participation in clinical audit, monthly academic half days, annual appraisal, and maintaining mandatory and statutory training.
