Job Description Job Title: Principal Electrical Engineer – Data Centres Job Overview: As a Principal Electrical Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in the design, development, and implementation of electrical systems for large-scale data centre facilities. This role requires deep expertise in power distribution, backup power systems, low and medium voltage electrical systems, and sustainability practices. You will lead a team of engineers, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and ensure that electrical systems are designed to meet high standards of performance, efficiency, and safety. Key Responsibilities: Electrical System Design: Lead the design and development of electrical infrastructure for data centre projects, including power distribution, backup power (UPS, generators), lighting, grounding, and electrical safety systems. Project Leadership: Oversee electrical engineering aspects of data centre projects from conceptual design to construction and commissioning, ensuring compliance with industry standards and project specifications. Team Management: Supervise and mentor a team of electrical engineers, providing technical guidance and support to ensure the highest quality of work. Foster a collaborative environment and assist in professional development. Stakeholder Collaboration: Work closely with architects, mechanical engineers, contractors, and project managers to ensure the seamless integration of electrical systems within the overall design. Design Reviews & Quality Assurance: Conduct design reviews, risk assessments, and system evaluations to ensure all designs meet regulatory codes, industry best practices, and client requirements. Sustainability & Efficiency: Implement and advocate for energy-efficient and sustainable electrical solutions, focusing on optimizing power usage effectiveness (PUE) and reducing environmental impact. Troubleshooting & Problem Solving: Provide technical troubleshooting expertise during design and construction phases and in post-commissioning phases, resolving any electrical system issues that arise. Regulatory Compliance & Safety: Ensure that all electrical systems comply with local and international electrical codes, safety standards, and industry regulations. Tender & Commercial support: Provide input into bids and tenders and participate in client meetings to help secure work or extend scope of works. Experience: 5 years of experience in electrical engineering, with a significant focus on data centre design, construction, and operations. Proven experience leading electrical design efforts for large-scale, high-capacity data centres or mission-critical facilities. In-depth knowledge of electrical systems, including medium and low-voltage power distribution, generators, UPS systems, electrical protection, and grounding systems. Strong understanding of data centre energy efficiency practices, power usage effectiveness (PUE), and sustainability initiatives. Experience with regulatory standards such as NEC (National Electrical Code), IEC, IEEE, and other relevant industry standards. Familiarity with advanced electrical design software and tools (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit, ETAP, or similar). Skills: Strong leadership and team management skills. Excellent problem-solving abilities, with a focus on finding creative and efficient solutions. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively collaborate with clients, contractors, and team members. Qualifications: Education: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field (Master’s degree preferred).
