The role

We are partnering with a therapeutic SEMH specialist school in Richmond to appoint a KS3 Nurture Teacher. The school supports pupils who are unable to access mainstream education due to complex SEMH needs, often alongside Autism (ASC). You will deliver a nurture-based curriculum (KS2–KS3), prioritising emotional regulation, relationships and readiness to learn.

What is it like working in a SEMH school?

Every day is different. Routines help, but no two days are the same; you must be flexible and ready to adapt. Relationships come first. Success depends on building trust and consistency with students before academic progress can happen. There will be highs and lows. You’ll see challenging behaviours and setbacks, but also incredible breakthroughs when a student feels safe enough to engage. Teamwork is essential. You work closely with therapists, teachers, TAs, and pastoral staff in a joined-up, therapeutic approach. Personal reward: It can be demanding, but helping a young person regulate, re-engage, and grow in confidence is deeply fulfilling.
