As a Consultant Psychiatrist in Liaison Psychiatry based at William Harvey Hospital in Ashford, you will be responsible for delivering a high-quality clinical service and actively involved in the strategic development of the team and broader services.

East Kent Hospitals University Foundation Trust is a large acute hospital trust providing a full range of general hospital services to around 500,000 people living in the East of Kent. The Liaison Psychiatry Service provides a single point of contact for the mental health needs of patients attending the Emergency Department or admitted to the general hospital.

Main duties of the job

* To provide psychiatric care to patients referred to the Liaison Psychiatry Service
* To provide professional leadership including clinical leadership to the Liaison Multidisciplinary Team
* To provide professional leadership including clinical supervision to the medical team and to provide clinical leadership to the Liaison MDT

Person Specification

Transport

Essential
* Holds and will use valid UK driving licence OR provide evidence of proposed alternative.
Training, Qualifications and Registration

Essential
* MB BS or equivalent medical qualification.
* Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at the time of appointment.
* On the GMC Specialist Register OR within six months
* Approved Clinician status OR able to achieve within 3 months of appointment
* Approved under S12 OR able to achieve with 3 months of appointment
Desirable
* In good standing with GMC with respect to warning and conditions on practice
* Additional clinical qualifications.
* MRCPsych.
* Qualification or higher degree in medical education, clinical research or management.
Clinical Skills, Knowledge and Experience

Essential
* Excellent knowledge in specialty
* Excellent clinical skills using bio-psycho-social perspective and wide medical knowledg
* Excellent oral and written communication skills in English
* Able to manage clinical complexity and uncertainty
* Makes decisions based on evidence and experience including the contribution of others
* Able to meet duties under MHA and MCA
Desirable
* Wide range of specialist and sub-specialist experience relevant to post within NHS or comparable service
Academic Skills and Lifelong Learning

Essential
* Able to deliver undergraduate or postgraduate teaching and training
* Ability to work in and lead team
* Demonstrate commitment to shared leadership & collaborative working to deliver improvement
* Participated in continuous professional development
* Participated in research or service evaluation
* Able to use and appraise clinical evidence
* Has actively participated in clinical audit and quality improvement programmes
Desirable
* Able to plan and deliver undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and training relevant to this post
* Reflected on purpose of CPD undertaken
* Experienced in clinical research and /or service evaluation
* Evidence of achievement in education, research, audit and service improvement: awards, prizes, presentations and publications.
* Has led clinical audits leading to service change or improved outcomes to patients
