Band 5 Sexual Health Nurse

Luton Sexual Health are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Registered Nursewho is a team player. This self-motivated and ambitious individual will be required to provide confidential, holistic sexual and contraceptive health care and education to clients attending the town centre service in a welcoming, sensitive and non-judgemental manner. Assessing sexual health and contraception healthcare needs; delivering and implementing individual care within defined competencies you will be educating and advising clients using a motivational/health coaching approach to promote positive sexual health choices, relationships and outcomes.
The role will include one evening working until 1900 and one Saturday in 3 and involves providing care without supervision, demonstrating procedures and supervise junior and/or unqualified staff.
Work effectively as part of the wider Multidisciplinary Team and support the Band 7 ANPs, Band 8a Nurse Managers and Clinical Operations Lead in achieving the service, Directorate and Trust's aims and objectives.
Main duties of the job
Assessment of sexual health and contraception healthcare needs, delivery and implementation of individual care within defined competencies.
Educate and advise clients using a motivational/health coaching approach to promote positive sexual health choices, relationships and outcomes.
Identify Child Sexual Exploitation (CSE) sexual assault, Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) and Child/Adult Safeguarding concerns and follow reporting/management protocols
Perform venepuncture.
Perform microscopy.
Assist clinicians prepare for/carry out procedures/sample taking. Process samples.
Deliver medication as prescribed or according to PGD's.

Job responsibilities
Provide confidential, holistic sexual and contraceptive health care and education to clients attending the service in a welcoming, sensitive and non-judgemental manner.
Carry out all relevant forms of care without supervision. Demonstrate procedures and supervise junior and/or unqualified staff.
Work effectively as part of the wider Multidisciplinary Team and support the Band 7 ANPs, Band 8a Nurse Managers and Clinical Operations Lead in achieving the service, Directorate and Trusts aims and objectives.
Demonstrate a flexible approach to days/hours worked and actively participate in changes to planned rota to ensure that service has appropriate nursing cover for all clinics/sites.
Manage own time effectively and perform allocated tasks within a reasonable time frame.
Supervise/direct the work of Assistant Practitiioner/HCAs, students or other trainees as required.
Use resources required to meet patient needs economically and evaluate their effectiveness.
Participate in effective mentoring of junior Nurses and HCAs - with particular attention to monitoring and continuous assessment of students.
Contribute to the services learning environment as a positive role model and through participation in delivery of service teaching programmes for internal and external staff.
Undertake appropriate activities to regularly update clinical knowledge and skills.
Work towards sexual and contraceptive Nurse Band 6 competencies.
Participate in clinical audit as required.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* Registered Nurse.
Experience
* Working as a Band 5 Nurse in a medical setting
Knowledge
* NHS Sexual Health & HIV Standards of Care.
* Understanding of the need of confidentiality awareness at all times.
* Legislation relevant to the post.
Skills
* Ability to adapt interactions to communicate effectively with a diverse range of individuals/groups.
* Excellent verbal, non-verbal and written communication skills.
* Good standards of clinical performance in defined sexual and contraceptive health competencies.
