About the Role
Our Balfour Beatty Highways business has a terrific opportunity for a Site Production Engineer to join our £1.2 billion Lower Thames Crossing project, consisting of 43 bridges, including viaducts, 17 km of complex highways construction, complex utility diversions, and a scheme‑wide, industry‑leading approach to carbon reduction. Balfour Beatty Highways maintains, manages and operates major highway networks across the UK, supporting local authorities to create communities where people want to live, work and play.
As a Site Production Engineer, you will support the Design Engineering team in delivering schemes related to our Lower Thames Crossing project.
Responsibilities
* Health, Safety & Wellbeing: Fully comply with our LTC ‘Beyond Zero Harm’ programme and the Balfour Beatty Golden Rules, produce specific Works Package Plans, and conduct/record weekly safety tours.
* Programme and Production: Communicate daily productivity targets to the supervisor, and maintain a visual notice board to record achievements and reasons for not achieving targets with agreed actions.
* Engineering & Design Management: Carry out basic setting out using primary control from the project surveyor, produce sketches to support Section Engineers with technical queries or temporary works design briefs.
* Quality Assurance: Provide specifications and standards to the supervisor and ensure clarity on requirements.
* Community: Be aware of stakeholder and community requirements, participate in community engagement events and volunteering.
* Environmental Sustainability & Carbon: Understand environmental, sustainability and low‑carbon commitments and incorporate all requirements into daily activities.
* Procurement: When requested by the Section Engineer, raise requisitions for plant and materials in line with procurement, cost management and administration procedures.
* Handover: Assist the Section Engineer with preparing redlines and as‑built drawings.
Qualifications
* Engineering or Construction Management qualification.
* Proven experience in a similar role, preferably on large‑scale infrastructure projects.
* Strong leadership and communication skills.
* Experience with NEC 3 / 4 contracts.
* Knowledge of construction regulations and best practices.
* Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
* Full UK driving licence.
* Fit‑for‑work medical.
* CSCS.
* BPSS security clearance.
