This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated, compassionate and reliable General Practice Assistant (GPA) to join our multi-disciplinary practice team.

We are a close working and dynamic team who are passionate about developing and delivering excellent quality local services to meet the needs of our patients.

Due to our practice joining a Primary Care Network, we are looking to expand our practice team by seeking to employ a General Practice Assistant (GPA) under the ARRS scheme. Our team comprises of 4 GP Partners, 4 Salaried GPs, 3 Practice Nurses, 2 HCAs and a supportive and dedicated Administrative Team.

We have a strong culture of learning and staff developmentand will actively support and encourage development in any areas of specialinterest.


Main duties of the job

This is a full time position offering an excitingopportunity to support both the clinical and administrative teams in deliveringhigh-quality patient care. It will involve basic clinical duties and alsoadministrative skills.

You will play a key role in improving workflow, reducing clinician workload, and enhancing patient experience. Training will be provided and we have a strong commitment to learning and development.

You will have a clinical and administrative mentor during your probation/training period and will be expected to understand the Competency Framework and all that this entails.

The role will include work on occasional Saturdays and evenings on a rota basis for Extended Access cover.

Job responsibilities

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Clinical Support

* Use and maintain information reporting systems and databasesrelevant to the position using EMIS
* Record and document vital signs (e.g. blood pressure, pulse,temperature)
* Assist with phlebotomy, ECGs and chaperoning. Provide basictreatment room duties.
* Support annual health checks and long-term conditionmonitoring
* Run medication safety audits in conjunction with the clinical team and highlight patients that require clinical review e.g. inresponse to MHRA / national patient safety alerts, the local incentive scheme,quality and outcomes framework (QOF) or local updates

Administrative Support

* Support the clinical team with medication reviews,hospital discharge letters and the Drug Monitoring system.
* Support the administrative team with clinical coding, summarising and achieving QOF targets as required

Practice Operations

* Participate in team meetings, training sessions, and servicedevelopment activities
* Communicate effectively with colleagues, patients, andexternal agencies
* Maintain confidentiality and follow practice policies andprocedures
* Participate in an annual individual performance review(appraisal)
* Able to apply confidentiality, tact and diplomacy inconducting the duties required of this role
* Manage a workload effectively and operate independently

Training & Development

* Full in-house induction and ongoing support
* The practice can support you with career development such asthe NHS England General Practice Assistant Certificate Programme

Theremay be, on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks, this will bedependent upon factors such as workload and staffing levels


Person Specification


Experience

* Experience of working within the NHS
* Experience of working in Primary Care
* Experience of working in a GP practice


Qualifications

* GCSEs in English and Maths
* Administrative experience and good organisational skills
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills
* Phlebotomy, ECGs and basic treatment room clinical skills
* Proficient in basic IT systems, including Microsoft Office
* Ability to manage workload and work independently under supervision
* Friendly and professional manner with patients and colleagues
* Willingness to undertake training and commit to ongoing learning is essential for this role
* Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with both patients and colleagues
* Ability to work with confidential sensitive information and understand boundaries
* Competent and confident in the use of Microsoft Office applications
* Experience working in a general practice
* Awareness of medical terminology
* Ability to think on feet
* Knowledge of clinical coding
* Knowledge of EMIS and clinical systems
* Understanding of QOF and primary care targets
* Care Certificate or equivalent qualification
* Experience of handling data with a high level of accuracy

* Excellent communication skills (written and oral)
* Clear, polite telephone manner
* Competent in the use of Office and Outlook
* Effective time management (planning and organising)
* Ability to work as a team member and autonomously
* Excellent interpersonal skills
* Problem solving and analytical skills
