Deputy Ward Sister - Adult Eating Disorders

Welford (ED) Ward is a 15 bedded eating disorder unit which cares for people with severe anorexia nervosa from across the East Midlands. We need a highly motivated, experienced and conscientious Band 6 nurse to help lead our well-established team, offering support, supervision and guidance to less experienced staff. You will work closely with other Band 6 Nurses, Band 5 Nurses, Health Care Support Workers, OTs, Dietitians, SALT, Ward Manager and Team managers to ensure that the team is well led and deliver high quality effective nursing care. The role will be based at the Glenfield Hospital site in the Bennion Centre.

We operate a 2 shift system covering a 24/7 operation. Successful applicants should be able to work on the rotating pattern, but we may be able to be flexible with the shift pattern on request.

We are happy to have those who are interested to come and visit the ward. Patient testimonial a place of safety where people understood what I was going through and never judged me. The staff were always there to listen, guide and support me during a very difficult time, and they genuinely cared. They helped me see who I was, that I am an okay person who deserves happiness, and that life without this illness is not only possible but worth fighting for. They taught me how to find a precious five minute break from the chaos of my mind, but most of all, they gave me back my life and, for the first time in forever, they gave me hope.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will demonstrate they possess the same core values as our organisation, Compassion, Respect, Trust and Integrity in all aspects of their work.

You will be expected to provide clinical, managerial, and educational leadership to a team of registered and unregistered nursing staff and take an active lead in, or facilitate, the development of ward initiatives to improve the provision of care.

The post holder will undertake management roles such as completing audits and providing training. Direct clinical care will also be a major part of the role by providing one to one sessions with patients, enteral feeding and care planning. The post holder, in the absence of the Ward Sister/Charge Nurse, will take responsibility for the management of the ward; ensuring the smooth day to day running of the ward and ensuring the wards systems and standards are maintained.
