Job Description:

Working Pattern – alternate weekends with flexible shift patterns to achieve 10 days in 14, an average of 50 hours per week.

From £34,000 - £40,000 per year, DOE

Excellent Training, Development and progression provided

A 3-bedroom bungalow provided

- Want to learn and develop your career through training and extra responsibilities

- Share our passion and care for high yielding, high genetic merit cows

This is an opportunity for someone looking to progress their career, expand their skills, or take on extra responsibility.

Our Farm

We currently milk 380 cows three times a day through a modern herringbone parlour. Our cows are housed all year round on sand cubicles and we are aligned to a national retailer. Our current herd average is over to 14,000 litres per cow, and therefore technical excellence, protocols and KPI’s are essential to maintain and drive performance. We rear all our own replacements and grow grass silage, maize and cereals, which are all fed back to the cows. We formulate our dairy diets in house using US software, and are progressive in breeding heifers from the highest TPI sires from across the world.

We also operate a trainee scholarship programme designed to offer enthusiastic dairy operators an opportunity to develop their dairy management skills.

Your role

As a Senior Herdsperson, you will be supporting the overall running of the dairy operation with roles and responsibilities including:

· Daily management of the herd's health and well-being, spotting and treating illnesses

· Leading the team to ensure all daily tasks are completed effectively

· Milking to a high and consistent standard, keeping the parlour clean and tidy

· Liaising with vets, nutritionists, and farm consultants

· Working with owners to achieve financial and technical targets.

· Taking responsibility for dry cow management, calving cows and colostrum protocols

· Utilising the data provided and keeping compliance & records up to date

· Keeping the overall farm tidy and safe to operate

· General yard duties such as scraping, bedding, feeding and mucking out

· Assume overall day to day control when owners are off site.

This is an exciting role, working for a business who are passionate about developing their team and allowing them to achieve their career goals. If you are wanting to become a Herd/ Farm Manger as part of your progression, this role is an excellent opportunity to gain more responsibility and support as part of your journey.

Requirements

· A full UK Driving license.

· Proof of UK right to work

· Our team are a crucial part of our business, so your attitude, behaviours and values are just as important to us as your experience and skills.

· Be a reliable, punctual and trustworthy individual who wants to succeed

· Willing to embrace new ideas and technology.

· Be a skilled individual with a high attention to detail who can lead a team and communicate effectively
